Man arrested for visa Scam

A 39-year-old man who procured a fake visa and other travel documents for another man has been arrested and charged before Ejigbo Magistrates’ court for his involvement in the scam in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The suspect, Mcthomas Agbaje, allegedly defrauded Ehizogie Sammy, of N750,000 under the false pretence of procuring Visa and accommodation in Germany for him.

The incident happened at Abesan Estate in Ipaja area of Lagos where they met.

P.M.NEWS gathered that Agbaje first collected N550, 000 for the procurement of the visa and other travel documents.

Thereafter, he reportedly prepared fake papers and demanded another N207,000 for his hotel accommodation there.

Sammy who did not suspect any foul play paid the whole money and prepared to travel with the papers.

However, he was prevented from traveling from the airport after the officials discovered that the travel documents were fake.

Sammy was also arrested and detained for the alleged criminal offence of being in possession of fake documents.

When Sammy contacted Agbaje, he switched off his phone and went into hiding.

When he was eventually released, he went to the police at Area M Idimu Command and reported the fraud.

The police trailed Agbaje and later arrested him.

Agbaje was charged to court with obtaining money under false pretence and stealing under the Criminal Code.

He pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Agbaje was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will perfect his bail.

The matter has been adjourned till 12 December, 2015.
