Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state, on Monday lauded Sunshine Queens F.C. of Akure for winning the 2015 Women Federation Cup.

NAN reports that the Queens, on Sunday, November 22 in Lagos defeated Bayelsa Queens 3-1 via penalty shoot-outs, after scores ended 1-1 at regulation time.

At a reception organised for the team, Mimiko commended the determination, commitment, patriotism and soccer artistry which the team displayed throughout the competition.

He also commended the team for winning individual awards such as the Golden Boot won by Tina Oyateleme, being the tournament’s highest goal scorer.

“This is very pleasant and cool night. We are very proud of your success and I want to congratulate you because you have made us proud.

“You won a trophy we have been waiting for since 39 years ago, which means we can conquer the world with sports.

“The girls have made us proud. They are very enterprising, determined all through the final and they truly deserved the trophy; with dedication and determination they made history.

“I congratulate our golden girls and charge them to continue to aim higher and sustain their winning streak to attain greater heights in future championships,” he said.

The governor also praised the technical crew, led by Kayode Olujohungbe for the excellent performance and Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) management, led by Akin Akinbobola for their leadership qualities.
