Football fans have taken to twitter to react to the eight-year ban slammed on FIFA president, Sepp Blatter and UEFA boss, Michel Platini.

They were handed the punishment on Monday by the independent FIFA adjudicatory ethics chamber.

Blatter and Platini were banned from all football activities for eight years and also fined by the committee.

While Blatter would pay CHF 50,000, Platini was slammed with a fine of CHF 80,000.

The decision was revealed in Zurich Monday morning, bringing to an end Blatter and Platini’s control of the sport.

Commenting on the ban on the twitter handle of the world football governing body, @fifamedia, few hours after the news went viral on the social media, some of the fans believe the eight years ban was a lenient action on the two football administrators.

The fans suggested that they ought to have got stiffer penalties.

Anirudha Singh wrote on ‏@anirudha_amethi that “So Blatter/Platini Gone But Who Next & Why no Life Ban.”

@Bern1009 wants a jail term for the duo. “Hardly a tough penalty! He belongs in jail!.”

To Ardit Qirici writing on ‏@AQirici, Blatter and Platini are supposed to have been given more fine to pay. He said: “Why Platini and Blatter are not fined with 2m Swiss francs for the loss of this amount?”

@Blackimage80 said: “Go to jail and clean your self, no country for old man.”

Mark Starr on @StarryUK believes even with the ban, both Blatter and Platini won’t be trusted again.

“Only 8 years! Can either of them ever be trusted again?” he asked.

Berramdane Hamza said ‏@Berramdanehamza that “Blatter and Platini cared about themelves not about football.”

Fujisan writing on ‏@fujisan43 taunted Platini, saying “Will Platini be allowed to play football in his garden with his grand-children?”

Pule writing on ‏@PuleTsoute1 wants FIFA to go beyond punishing Blatter and Platini alone. He wrote: ”Now Fifa must also get rid of Issa Hayatou. Fifa needs a clean up and allow fresh minds to take over.”

Meanwhile, the immediate consequence of the ban is that both Blatter and Platini cannot run for FIFA Presidency in February.
