A member of a gang of armed robbers terrorising people in Ajede area along Ijebu Ode/Benin expressway in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State has been shot dead by the police during a gun duel.
The police anti-crime patrol team attached to Ogbere Division of Ogun State Police Command at about 1:10 pm engaged the robbers in a gun battle on Tuesday which resulted in the death of one of them while others escaped with bullet wounds.
A statement on Wednesday signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed that the anti-crime patrol team responded to a distress call that the hoodlums had blocked the road with a Toyota bus with Reg.No NND 529 XA.
It was also gathered that the Toyota bus was earlier snatched by the robbers and ordered the occupants to lie down as the robbers were about to rob the travellers, the police team arrived the scene and opened fire on them.
“The gun duel left one of the robbers dead as a result of superior fire power of the police.
“After the operation, the commuters were all rescued unhurt and all their belongings were intact. When a search was conducted on the dead robber, a cutlass, five life cartridges and assorted charms were recovered from him,” the statement added.
