A man who claimed to be a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, Mr. Adesiyan Adeniyi, has been arrested by men of the Sagamu Police Command for alleged armed robbery.

He was arrested in possession of a stolen unregistered motorcycle and a locally made double barrel gun with 20 live cartridges.

Police operatives who had placed the suspect under surveillance arrested him at Ewusi area, Makun, Sagamu in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State on Wednesday afternoon.

A statement Thursday by the Ogun Police spokesperson, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect, who claims to be a Vigilante official, has been terrorizing the good people of Sagamu and robbing them of their belongings on several occasions.

“The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Abdulmajid Ali, has therefore directed thorough investigation into the matter to ascertain the membership of the suspect of Vigilante Group of Nigeria and uncover some of his previous criminal acts in the area.

“The Commissioner of Police has also promised to censor members of the Vigilante and Neighbourhood Wwatch in the state, with a view to auditing their activities and henceforth control their operations,” said Adejobi.

The state Police Command Headquarters has reiterated its plans to sanitise and flush hoodlums or criminals out of Ogun State as the police command has been making the state hot and non-conducive for the criminals.

It further stated that the case will be charged to court immediately after proper investigations have been completed.
