Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung was among the first callers at the secretariat of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, in Abuja on Wednesday to pay a condolence visit on the death of NFF’s Head of Protocol, Ibrahim Abubakar

Abubakar was shot dead by some unidentified gunmen suspected to be armed robbers early on Wednesday at his residence in Abuja.

Nigerian football family woke up to the sad death of Abubakar who was described as a peaceful man.

“We pray that the Lord will console the family he left behind, the NFF and the entire football family. May God grant him eternal rest. Amen,” Barrister Dalung said.

Writing on his tweeter handle, Super Eagles star, Ogenyi Onazi who plays in Italy said: “Very sad to hear about the unfortunate loss of Ibrahim Abubakar. Rest in Peace! Our prayers are with the family you left behind.”

Eagles’ Media Offficer, Oluwatoyin Ibitoye, who is with the home-based senior team in their camp in Pretoria, South Africa for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) could not hide his shock when reacting to the death of Abubakar, saying “shocking, devastating and tragic news about the killing of NFF’s head of protocol Ibrahim Abubakar by armed robbers this morning in Abuja.”

Journalist and African football advocate, Tunde Adelakun, said on tweeter: “Very sad news from the NFF with the news of the passing of Protocol Officer Ibrahim. I only knew him as Ibro. Shocking news. Rest In Peace. Very sad morning for me.”​
