A federal high court sitting in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital has ordered that the national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh be remanded in Kuje prison.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Metuh before the court on seven count charges of breach of public trust, corrupt acquisition of public funds and money laundering.

According to the charges, the PDP spokesman transferred the sum of $1 million through his agent, Nneka Nicole Ararume, to one Sie Iyenome of Capital Field Investment, committing an offense contrary to Section One of the Money Laundering Act.

Metuh has been in custody of EFCC for over a week on allegations that he received the sum of N400 million from the office of National Security Adviser.

It would be recalled that Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday refused Metuh’s application to compel the EFCC to respond to his fundamental rights enforcement application on Thursday.

The Judge ruled that EFCC should be allowed to respond to the application since the fundamental rights enforcement procedure rules allows a respondent five days to respond.
