Lagos empowers 200 marginalised people

The Lagos State Government has flagged off a 3-week Skill Acquisition programme for 200 marginalized people in the state.

The training powered by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in conjunction with the Lagos State Aids Control Agency (LSACA) is aimed at enabling the marginalized people to be gainfully employed and be able to live meaningful life as well as take care of their families.

Declaring the training open, the Director in Charge of Women Affairs in the Ministry, Ms Adefunke Odutola charged the participants to rise above their situations and give the training programme their best in order to be able to apply it after the programme and also train others.

She, therefore, enjoined them to cooperate fully with the instructors to get the best of the training programme.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Aids Control Agency, LSACA, Dr Olusegun Ogboye represented by Dr. Oladipupo Fisher said LSACA decided to partner with WAPA knowing that the training programme would go a long way in improving the economic life of the beneficiaries.

Participants at the three-week training programme which will end on Friday 6 February, 2015 are expected to choose vocations of their choice from courses ranging from Hair braiding/weaving, Basic Sewing/ Knitting, Event decoration/ Flower arrangement, Hat making, Catering, Soap, pomade to Bead stringing/fabric beading. Others are Gele (local headtie) tying, makeup application, textile design/ Tye and Dye.

Responding on behalf of the 200 beneficiaries, Mr Ade Adio applauded the State Government for the opportunity given to them, particularly the male participants who are participating for the first time in such programme designed to enable the marginalized people live better lives.

He solicited for more of such skill acquisition training programmes from the Ministry of Women Affairs and their partner LSACA for those that are yet to benefit from the training.
