Why we staged protest to support Aregbesola— Osun Professionals

Members of Osun Professionals in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja have said that Governor Rauf Aregbesola deserved encouragement rather than orchestrated mischief and blackmailing by the opposition in Osun State.

The group led by its President, Comrade Majeed Yahaya, staged a peaceful march in support of Aregbesola in Abuja Tuesday.

Members of the group marched around Three Arms Zone and Central Area of Abuja to drum support for the Governor who had faced persistent attacks from the opposition in the last few months.

Comrade Yahaya, an accountant by profession, said that while Aregbesola has been trying his best to leave a good legacy in Osun State despite the lean resources at his disposal, some people allegedly sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been going about campaigning against his government.

“Despite the fact that we are working outside Osun State, whenever we go home, we always see what this government is doing physically to alleviate the plight of the people and more importantly our families at home always report how Governor Aregbesola’s actions have touched their lives positively.

“It’s painful to see these enemies of progress carrying bad report to paint government of Osun State as anti-people. We won’t just stand and let these people destroy the good works of our dear Governor,” Yahaya said.

While calling on the indigenes of the state to join hands with Aregbesola to move Osun forward, Yahaya urged the governor to avoid political distractions and to continue in his determination to move the state forward.

“Why is Osun State so special for these disgruntled elements when we have some other states in the country facing similar problems? Aregbesola needs to be encouraged as he makes efforts to tackle developmental challenges facing the state.

“Most states in Nigeria are facing similar challenges due to dwindling revenue and reduction in allocation to states.

“We are using this opportunity to urge our governor to remain steadfast and be creative in revenue generation to deliver on his mandate,” he said.
