The Nigerian Army on Friday advised soldiers involved in the ongoing counter insurgency operation in Borno to adhere strictly to professional ethics to enable them to consolidate on the gains recorded so far.

The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj.-Gen. Hassan Umaru gave the advice while addressing troops in Bama, headquarters of Bama Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno.

Umaru commended the troops for their gallantry in fighting the Boko Haram terrorists and assured them of enhanced welfare to further boost their morale.

He also promised to ensure regular troops rotation to give room for optimal performance.

NAN reports that the theatre commander also visited Konduga Local Government Area and Banki town, where he addressed troops before returning to Maiduguri.

He told newsmen that the army had yet to take decision on the issue of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking shelter in Maiduguri.

He noted that “the federal and state governments have their plan for the IDPs who are mainly residents of these areas.

“We will wait until they pass their own instructions on the case of the IDPs before acting.

“Ours is to key into what they are doing, but for now, the camps are secured; we have our deployment made up of a Joint Task Force from the military, the police, NSCDC and the vigilance group called Civilian JTF.
