Royal Master’s School holds 9th Annual Inter-House Sports Meet

It was a gathering of teachers, parents, sports men and women, business community, activists, the media etc. at the 9th inter-house sports competition of the Royal Master’s School, located at Central Business District, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos on Friday.
The Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, in her opening remarks stated that the significance of sporting activities can never be underestimated because its benefits are way too enormous to be overlooked; which range from physical health, to mental health and to multi-million dollars career opportunities and so on.
She also stated that physically, sporting activities help the body to keep its rhythm along with one’s body type.
“No doubt, sport activity is the most popular form of body exercise, and as science has confirmed, exercise is an effective way to rid the body of metabolic deposits that are capable of harming the body. This means that sporting, that is a form of exercise, is a prevention and cure process against frivolous clinical ailments.
“In other words, most of the common human sicknesses that emanate from harmful metabolisms are avoidable and can therefore be prevented if we engage in sporting activities. Let us know for instance, that most victims who died through heart-related diseases would have overcome the killer disease if they engaged in athletics such as running,” she said.

Okei-Odumakin further stated that excessive weight and redundant wastes from junk foods could be shed off from the body “if we engage in exercise, most of which are part of sporting activities.
“In addition, apart from physical health, sporting activities also enhance mental health. Does anyone here know that there is a vital connection between the spine and the brain? So, check this out; anytime your spine is weak, your brain is lazy to carry out rigorous tasks. But whenever your spine is alive and active, your brain is also at its peak. So, to operate your brain at a good and stable frequency, do some running first thing in the morning and evaluate how active your spine and your brain are more active on that day.
“Aside health benefits of sporting activities, let’s consider the multi-billion dollar career avenue that sports have created, so far. Some of our young ones know almost more than us, what each football player earns in their respective football clubs and countries’ teams. But it started usually from inter-houses sports competitions -something like what you’re about do today.”
She urged all the athletes to do their sporting activities responsibly.

“Don’t do it to hurt yourself and don’t take substances to enhance your performance, because they will fail you someday. It is to this end that I want to congratulate you all on the occasion of today. Be healthy, be wealthy and be wise!”
The Executive Director of Royal Master’s School, Mrs. Olatunji Seniorba in her remarks said she was overwhelmed with the turnout of guests, participants and spectators at the event and the competitive nature which brought out the best of the students.
While saluting the Green House for emerging as the best house, she encouraged the others not to be discouraged but to put more efforts during subsequent inter-house sport.
Mr. Ogbonna Frank, the Chairman of the Sport Committee, was excited, exclaiming that he felt fulfilled that no one left the event without being motivated.
