The Registrar of the University of Ibadan, UI, Mr. Olujimi Olukoya, has disclosed that the premier institution has expelled 97 students from various academic programmes in the university.
Olukoya stated that expelling the students has become imperative as a result of their inability to obtain the minimum academic grades at the end of 2014/2015 session.
He stressed that those expelled were students whose grade points fell below required cumulative grade point to proceed in their academic pursuit.
According to him, there is nothing unusual in the withdrawal because it is the university’s tradition that is known to all the students.
He further disclosed that those asked to withdraw cut across seven faculties, adding, “Senate at its meeting of Monday, January 1, 2016, approved that the candidates whose names appear on this list should withdraw from the university over their failure to obtain the minimum academic requirements at the end of 2014/2015 session.”
He said that the expelled students are at various levels as well as in the final year in the seven faculties affected with some of them having their studentships lapsed, while three voluntarily withdrew from the institution.
