Bakery worker jailed for assault in Benin

An Egor Chief Magistrate’s court in Benin, Edo state, on Tuesday, March 8, sentenced a 25-year-old bakery worker, Nwolicha Jostile, to two years imprisonment, for assaulting his co-worker, Eunice Agbeborn.

Jostile who pleaded guilty to two-count charge of assault levelled against him, committed the crime on March 3, 2016, at about 10:30am, at Ishmael Bakery, located in Uwelu road Benin.

The prosecutor, ASP Osas Osarentin, told the Court that the convict used fist blow all over Agbebor’s body.

‎He said the convict also used bread making pan to hit the victim on her face which caused her bodily harm.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened section 351 and 355 of the criminal code cap 48 vol. II laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo state.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Igho Braimoh, sentenced the convict to 12 months imprisonment on each count, to run concurrently, with option of N20,000 in each count.‎
