Chief, 2 others arraigned over alleged false information

Operatives of the X Squad of the Federal Intelligence and Investigation Department, FIID, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos, have arrested the Baale (chief) of Adenuga Agbo village, Shagamu, Ogun State, western Nigeria, Jubrin Awodero, 55, and two others for allegedly giving false information to the police at the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, which led to the arrest and arraignment in court of Sunday Lasisi.

Others arrested over the alleged crime include Kamoru Onitayo, 59 and Musibau Awe, 46.

After investigation by Inspector Nafiu Liasu and his team, the suspects were arraigned before an Igbosere magistrates’court, Lagos on a two-count charge of felony to wit, giving false information to the police which led to Sunday Lasisi being charged with an offence at a magistrates’ court, knowing full well that he is innocent of the allegations.

Police prosecutor, ASP Henry Obiazi, informed the court in charge No 0/9/2016 that the accused persons and others still at large committed the offence on 25 August, 2015 at the Zonal Police Headquarters, Onikan,Lagos.

Obiazi told the court that the first accused, Jubrin Awodero, the Baale of Adenuga village in Shagamu area of Ogun State, led others to report to the police at the Zone 2 Command that the complainant, Sunday Lasisi, attacked them with guns and other weapons, but that during investigation, the police discovered that the information was false.

Obiazi said the offences the accused persons committed are punishable under sections 409 and 95(1)(C) of the criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

All the accused, however, denied the police allegations in the open court, and Magistrate Mr. W. B. Balogun admitted them to bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Balogun adjourned the case till 19 April, 2016 for mention, while the defendants were taken to Ikoyi Prison, Lagos, pending when they will fulfil their bail conditions.
