Ekpenyong, Ohakwe arraigned for N11m fraud

Two men, who allegedly obtained N11 million from their client under pretext of repairing a vessel for him, were on Friday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused – Samson Ekpenyong, 54, and Daniel Ohakwe, 33 – are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and fraud.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Eshiet Eshiet, told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 30, 2015 at about 10: 00am at No. 5, Bombay Crescent, Apapa area of Lagos.

Eshiet said that the accused fraudulently obtained a sum of N11 million from one Dr Martins Enebeli under the guise of repairing his MT Sleza Ship stationed at Apapa.

According to him, the accused knew that the representation they made to Enebeli was false.

He said that the accused stole the said money, thereby contravening Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mr W. B. Balogun, granted each of the accused N5 million bail with two sureties each in like sum.

He said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused and all of them must be gainfully employed.

Balogun adjourned the case till May 3 for mention.
