The crisis rocking the Nigerian football since Friday’s ruling by a Jos High Court is interesting as days goes by with the Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung finally breaking his silence to make statements that can be seen as the Federal Government’s position on the matter.

Speaking in Lagos during a radio programme on Brila FM early Tuesday, Dalung categorically said that it is wrong for any person or group of persons to be acting on the ruling of the court and to be disturbing public peace.

According to Dalung, who is a lawyer, if a court gives a ruling, the party in favour must follow due process within 30 days before taking action on such ruling, while the defendant is allowed under the law to appeal such ruling within that 30 days.

He noted that he found it amusing that some people are planning to takeover NFF office because of a court ruling.

“When we heard the news we had to take some actions to protect government’s property. I personally called the Inspector General of Police to beef up security around our property so that there won’t be break down of law and order. That is why you can see the police at the NFF. We won’t allow some people to take the law into their hands,” the minister said.

He also denied ever receiving a copy of the Jos High court ruling, noting that, as at the time he was speaking with Brila FM, no court order has been served to his ministry.

“Nobody has served us the court ruling. Even if there is a court ruling, I believe as a lawyer some steps have to be taken. At least 30 days are allowed by the law for an action to be taken. The other party has right of appeal. Due process has to be strictly followed. I know what the law says,” he said.
