Residents of Abulegun street, Oloburo and its environs in Ofada area of Mowe, Ogun state, southwest Nigeria have appealed to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomom Arase and the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Almajid Ali to urgently come to their aid and direct the police at Mowe Division to provide security.
Some of the residents who spoke with PM NEWS correspondent in the area on Tuesday said they suspected the strange faces that usually throng a shop on Abulegun Street, Oloburo to drink local gin and smoke Indian hemp to be behind the series of attack on them in the area.
They said between December, 2015 and January, 2016, the criminal elements have broke and entered into the premises of two Pentecostal churches on Abulegun Street and carted away properties, including electronic gadgets worth thousands of naira and on 23 April, 2016 they broke into Golden Hair Dressing Saloon shop owned by one Mrs M. Omena on the same street through the roof and carted away properties worth at about N300,000.
The residents have now appealed to the IGP to provide patrol vans for the police at Mowe Division to enable them patrol Abulegun street, Oloburo and the entire Mowe axis to reduce criminal activities in the area as Mowe Division only operate with one patrol van.
Narrating the incident to PM NEWS corespondent, Mrs Omenna said, “I closed my shop around 9:00 pm on Saturday but was shocked on Sunday morning to discover that unknown persons had broken the wall and ceiling to gain access into my shop, carting away my instruments worth about N300,000.
I am now appealing to the authority concerned to provide patrol vans for the police at Mowe Division, to enable them provide security for the residents, Mrs Omena appealed.
Another resident, Mr Surajudeen Alao said, “the reasons why criminal activities is on the rise in Mowe town, Ogun state is because the police at Mowe Division are operating with only one patrol van.
“How is it possible for one patrol van to cover the entire Mowe town?, it is just not possible.
“And that is why we are calling on the IGP, Mr Solomon Arase and CP Almajid Ali to come to our aid and provide the Mowe Division with patrol vans to enable them curb criminal activities in the area,” Alao stated.
