Chelsea captain John Terry has been offered a new one-year contract by the Blues and is considering whether to accept it, according to the club.

Terry, 35, is out of contract at the end of this season and in January said he would not be extending his stay.

“With it coming so late in the season, this is a big decision for John and his family and it is something that they are now considering,” said the club.

Chelsea will be managed by Italy boss Antonio Conte next season.

He takes over from Guus Hiddink, who replaced Jose Mourinho following the Portuguese’s sacking in December.

Chelsea play champions Leicester on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, but Terry is suspended following his dismissal at Sunderland.

The defender has made 703 appearances since his debut in October 1998.
