Wike lauds successful hosting of West African golf tourney

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers has stated that the successful hosting of the West African Golf Tournament in Port Harcourt further proves that the state remains secure for investments, sports and tourism.

Speaking on Sunday at the Golf Course of Port Harcourt Club where golf professionals from all over West Africa competed, Wike said despite the sponsored negative media propaganda to discredit the state high profile events’ planners continue to prefer the state.

He said: “I feel so happy that the entire West African region have gathered here in Port Harcourt for this prestigious golf tournament.

“These high profile golf professionals have seen first hand that all they read in the newspapers are merely sponsored propaganda. Rivers State is safe for sporting events and business investments”.

The governor said that his administration has deliberately improved infrastructure to make the state attractive for the hosting of high profile events, which will energise hotel patronage and other tourism related activities.

He noted that his administration would continue to support sports because of its capacity to keep people mentally and physically fit, in addition to creating business opportunities.

Earlier, Mr Emmanuel Okene, captain of the Port Harcourt Club (Golf Section), commended the governor for his investments in sports.

He said the participants drawn from all over West Africa enjoyed the security and ambience of Port Harcourt during their stay in the city.

Wike was accompanied to the event by the State Commissioner for Sports, Mr Boma Iyaye.
