Driver docked over theft of beer

Justice symbolA 39-year old driver, Ademola Adesanya, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged stealing cartons of beer valued at N240,000 .

Adesanya, a resident of 24, Unity St., Agege, Lagos, is being tried for stealing.

The Prosecutor, Inspector George Nwosu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 14 at Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused stole cartons of big stout and satzenbrau beer valued at N240, 000, property of Cryslad Nigeria Ltd.

“The accused stole his employer’s goods,” he said.

Nwosu told the court that the accused allegedly loaded assorted kinds of Guinness products to deliver to a customer in Sapele in Delta.

“But on his way, he sold those products and converted the money to his personal use,” he said.

The prosecutor said that all efforts made by the company to get the money from the accused were unsuccessful.

“The accused had been on the run; he refused to show up in the office and refused to pick the company’s calls to him until he was arrested,” he said.

Nwosu said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court granted the him bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistrate, Mr A.A Adesanya, adjourned the case to June 20 for mention.
