Bassim Haidar Appointed As A Member Of Amnesty International Global Council

Amnesty International Global Council, a global non-governmental organization, has appointed Bassim Haidar as a member of its governing council.

Born in Nigeria and raised by Lebanese parents, Bassim Haidar pivotal experiences early in life led to his success in revolutionizing technology in some of the world’s developing regions.

Specifically, the Beirut University College alumnus set his entrepreneurial sights on addressing the needs of the people of Nigeria and Lebanon.

At the age of 20, Haidar brought his redoubtable skills and efforts to technology, co-founding and leading Intercom Ltd., a tech company specializing in telecom equipment and radio links. He is behind GMT, the leading integrated procurement, finance and logistics provider in West Africa. He also founded Channel IT, which provides supplies and services to the telecommunications industry in Nigeria.

In 2011, Haidar established Channel VAS, one of the leading providers of mobile financial and fintech services for emerging markets, operating in over 30 countries and reaching more than 560 million people.

Bassim Haidar also conducts the Channel VAS Squash Tournaments in the UK, which is a Gold tier tournament under the Professional Squash Association calendar.

All the proceeds from these events are donated to CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children, young people and their families.
