Jethro Ibileke/Benin‎: No fewer than 95 part-time students of the Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, who were arrested during a violent protest at the institution, have been remanded in prison custody.‎

The part-time students who were protesting against the school’s policy of no school fees, no examination, introduced by the Acting Rector of the institution, Jimoh Bramah, were accused of destroying properties worth millions of naira.

Items destroyed by the rampaging students include vehicles and school buildings.

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, who visited the institution on Friday to ascertain the level of damage, confirmed the arraignment of the students in court, adding that the court remanded them in prison custody till 29 June.

He described the incident as unfortunate, stressing that the school library and computer laboratory were vandalized with impunity.

The police boss ‎vowed to arrest other students involved in the wanton destruction.
