Man arrested 4 years after killing cousin

The Police in Sokoto State says the command has arrested one Atiku Galadima of Gidadawa area, Sokoto, for allegedly murdering his lawyer-cousin, Sirajo Abubakar, four years ago.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salisu Fagge, disclosed this in Sokoto on Friday while giving an update on the activities of the command.

Fagge said: “On 3/06/2012, at about 1930hrs, one, Atiku Galadima, male, of Gidadawa area, Sokoto, invited his cousin named Barrister Sirajo Abubakar, male, (now deceased), for an outing within Sokoto metropolis.

“Thereafter, the decomposed body of the Lawyer was found at Dundaye village, Wamakko Local Government Area.

“Since the murder, the suspect fled to an unknown destination. The dexterity of detectives on intelligence gathering paid up.

“The suspect was arrested on 22/6/2916, after four years of manhunt for him. The suspect will soon be charged to court.”

Fagge also disclosed the arrest of a Police Corporal (names withheld), who was said to have hit a passenger on a motorcycle with a stick on June 29, at a checkpoint along Wamakko-Binji road.

The commissioner said that the deceased was said to have died at the Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, on June 30.

Fagge said: “The officer is being detained at the State Police Command headquarters and he will be charged to court after thorough investigations.”

He also disclosed the arrest of seven cattle rustlers who stole 30 sheep in Gidan-Madi town, headquarters of Tangaza local government, on June 18.

Fagge stated that two vehicles and eight sheep were recovered from them, while the suspects have been charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

“Among the arrested suspects is a notorious receiver of stolen livestock who had featured in many cases of theft of animals in the past,” he added.
