Bashir Abiso, former Chairman of El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club of Maiduguri, has advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to consider confirming Salisu Yusuf as the substantive Super Eagles’ Head Coach.

Abiso on Monday in Abuja said that Yusuf has the credentials to pilot the affairs of the team.

“This is in view of his antecedents as assistant coach to the late Stephen Keshi, Samson Siasia and Sunday Oliseh at one time or the other at the national team,” he said.

The former club chairman said since the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has been encouraging indigenous initiatives, getting a foreign coach for Nigeria would be a step in the wrong direction.

“Getting a coach for the Super Eagles should not be different in this direction,” he said.

Abiso added that the team’s impressive performance in their most recent international friendlies under the tutelage of Yusuf was a clear indication that home-based coaches are equal to the task.

He also described the relationship between Yusuf and Nigeria’s foreign-based players as cordial.

“I am optimistic that if NFF gives all the necessary support and cooperation to Yusuf, the Super Eagles will excel in future competitions, regardless of their opponents,” the former club chairman said.
