Man remanded in prison for stealing welding machine

Ibrahim Usman, 25, was on Wednesday remanded by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos after he pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy and stealing a welding machine valued at N80,000.

The accused had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing and was remanded in custody at the Kirikiri Prisons, Apapa.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ishola Samuel , told the court that the accused and others at large entered the house of one Mr Ganiu Semiu, and stole a welding machine worth N80,000.

Samuel said the accused, however, damaged the entrance door through which he entered the house.

He said that the accused committed the offences on March 1, at Awobona St. Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 285 and 337 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs A.R. Onilogbo, ordered that the accused to be remanded in prison custody till Aug. 1, for facts and sentencing.
