Residents of the waterfront communities in Diobu axis of Port Harcourt have staged a peaceful protest in Port Harcourt against the seven days quit notice given them by the Rivers State Government.

The protesters accused Governor Nyesom Wike of abandoning them after they had voted for him.

The protesters decried the seven days notice given to them to vacate the waterfronts, describing it as inhuman and unrealistic.

The waterfront dwellers appealed to Governor Wike to compensate genuine property owners in the area and give them till December to enable them look for alternative accommodation.

The government had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum from 15 July to 21 July to the waterfront dwellers to quit or face eviction.
