A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday admitted a 25-year-old cook, Hope Sunday,‎ to bail in the sum of N1.6 million for alleged fraud.

The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, ordered that the defendant should provide a reliable surety that must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case till Sept. 28 for hearing.
The defendant of Apo-Dutse, Abuja, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and cheating.

The prosecutor, Mr Adeniyi Oyeyemi, said that Blessing Kalu of Nyanya, Abuja, reported the matter at the FCT Police Command on May, 18.

Oyeyemi said while the complainant was on her way to Apo-village, she entered a vehicle which the defendant and two others now at large pretended to be passengers in April.

He said the defendant and the two others took her to their shrine in Life Camp, Abuja, and deceitfully collected N400, 000 from her.

He added that they further gave the complainant a UBA account number with the defendant’s name and defrauded her of N1,050, 000.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 97 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.
