Amidst controversies surrounding the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the National Convention Planning Committee of the party, on Sunday held its inaugural meeting at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
Addressing the meeting, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, urged members to work towards ensuring the success of the convention slated for 17 August.
The governor urged members to continue to make sacrifices for the rebuilding of the party ahead of the next general elections.
Governor Wike announced at the meeting that sub committees with the responsibility of handling specific assignments during the convention will be set up.
He said:”We have a responsibility to organise a successful national convention to ensure that the party moves forward. I implore every member to make sacrifices.”
Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi inaugurated the committee last month.
