Three people have escaped death as a trailer carrying a container ran into three commercial buses at Falgbems bus stop on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The accident occurred around 6:46am on Tuesday at Falgbems bus stop inward Oshodi.

General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Michael Akindele said the agency received an alert through the emergency line at about 6.45 am through on a road traffic accident involving an articulated truck carrying a container and other three commercial buses at Falgbems bus stop, inward Oshodi.

“This prompted immediate activation of the agency’s Emergency Rescue Team, ERT to the accident scene. Preliminary investigation carried out by the ERT at the scene of the incident revealed that the accident involved a truck with registration number AKD 279 XR and three commercial buses with registration numbers, BDG 721 XJ, GGE 759 XN and KJA 25 XH.

“The accident was as a result of illegal stopping of the commercial bus drivers to pick passenger on the express way,” he said.

Akindele said three people sustained serious injuries, as one person was taken to the hospital by passers-by before the arrival of the ERT, while the other two were given first aid treatment by LASEMA’s medical team and the Lagos State Ambulance Services, LASAMBUS before being taken to the Trauma centre for further treatment

The LASEMA boss advised motorist to avoid reckless driving, over speeding and also adhere to all traffic rules and regulation to avoid accident.

Other rescue agencies at the scene included the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Nigeria police and the Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC.
