A 39-year-old driver, Edwin Onoja, who allegedly drove in a dangerous manner and caused the death of a pedestrian, was on Tuesday arraigned in Lagos.

The accused, who lives at Ikota Estate, Ajah-Lekki, a suburb of Lagos, is facing charges bordering on reckless driving and manslaughter at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi told the court that the offences were committed on Aug. 11 along Ikeja Military Cantonment, Lagos.

Perezi said that the accused drove in a reckless manner and in the process knock down a pedestrian, one Seyi Sunday.

“The victim lost a lot of blood and eventually died in the hospital,” he said.

The offences contravened Sections 19(1) and 21 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. Olanipekun, granted the accused to a bail of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

The magistrate adjourned the case to Nov. 17 for mention.
