2 men docked for damaging Toyota Camry cars

Two men on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly damaging two Toyota Camry windscreens valued at N70,000.

The accused, Bakare Rasheed (26) and Sunkanmi Opanuga (29), whose addresses are unknown, are facing a five-count charge of malicious damage, breach of peace and conspiracy.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Egunjobi Yomi told the court that the accused, with others still at large, committed the offences on Sept. 4 at Block 103, Car Park, Ijaye Housing Estate, Ogba.

Yomi said the accused caused violence at the premises of the residents and destroyed two Toyota Camry cars with Reg No KJA 567 DY and AAA 141 BE.

He said the accused used stones to damage the windscreens and side mirrors of the cars valued at N70,000 belonging to one Bolatan Tope.

“They also engaged themselves in a public fight in the estate, using different weapons like bottles and cutlasses, without any satisfactory reason,” Yomi said.

He said the offences contravened Sections 248, 409 and 516 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 each, with two sureties in like sum

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Osinbajo said the sureties must be employees of reputable companies within the court’s jurisdiction.

In addition, Osinbajo said the sureties must also show evidence of tax payment.

The case was adjourned to Sept. 29, for mention.
