The Rivers State Police Command has rescued 17 passengers of a commuter bus seized by suspected kidnappers on 5 September along the Ndele Elele axis of the East West Road.
Among those rescued were a deputy Controller of Prisons, Michael Okorie and his two children.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omoni Nnamdi, said 13 of those rescued were passengers in the commuter bus.
The Police spokesman disclosed that the suspects engaged the police in a gun duel during the rescue operation, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest them.
