Lt.-Col. Abubakar Attahiru, Chief Imam of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, has urged Muslims to shun greed and imbibe the spirit of giving to the less privileged.

Attahiru said this while speaking after a special prayer to commemorate the Eld El-Kabir prayers on Monday in Enugu.

Over 5,000 worshippers defiled the early morning showers to troop to the praying ground at the 82 Division Barracks, Enugu.

He said that the hallmark of someone that knows Allah is seen clearly from his or her show of generosity and love to all the neighbours living around him.

The Imam noted that the greatest undoing of the country today was greed and corruption.

“Where one person or few individuals would want to have it all while others are not considered at all,’’ he said.

Attahiru also urged Nigerians to live within their means by drawing up scale of preference on their needs and trying to fulfil the most pressing and urgent needs.

“With the present realities facing us, nobody can conveniently meet his needs; but we can always draw-up a scale of preference to guide our spending of the scarce resources available to us.

“As parents, the need of the immediate nuclear family should be give priority before other things should follow,’’ he said.

The cleric noted that the days of competition on wealth or consumption was gone.

“It is not a must that you should have whatever your neighbour have since both of you might not have the same financial earning capacity or scale of preference.

“There should be discipline not only in the way we worship God but also the way we live our lives,’’ he added.

Attahiru, however, made special prayers for the prosperity of the nation as well as the health and well-being of President Muhammadu Buhari and other top leaders in the country.
