Five remanded for possessing Indian hemp

An Osun Magistrates’ Court in Ile-Ife on Wednesday remanded five accused persons in prison custody for allegedly being in possession of Indian hemp.

They are Dare Sijuade, 27; Abiodun Arogundade, 22; Elijah Balogun, 24; Emmanuel Benjamin, 30 and Wale Awoseemo, 20.

The Magistrate, Mr. Olalekan Ijiyode did not take the plea of the accused and did not hear their bail application.

He ordered the accused persons to be remanded in prison to enable them show remorse.

He adjourned the case till Oct. 10, for hearing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Abdullahi told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on Sept 18, 2016, around 9 a.m. at Oke-Ijan, Ajamopo area, Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the accused conspired among themselves to commit the felony to wit: housebreaking, stealing and resisting arrest.

He further stated that the accused persons conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace with their behaviour which caused panic among the people in their neighborhood.
