Malam Sani Adamu, the Managing Editor/Director, Multi Media Services of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has died in Abuja on Sunday following a brief illness.

NAN reports that Adamu, 53, has been buried in Abuja according to Islamic rites.

Reacting to the death, the Editor-In-Chief of NAN, Malam Lawal Ado, said the death of Adamu “is a great loss’’ not only to NAN but to the journalism profession.

“Sani is somebody, who was married to his job and his enthusiastic about journalism profession, hence his determination to develop the Multi-Media Unit of the agency.

“I pray that may his soul rest in peace, may Allah forgive him and make paradise his final abode,’’ Ado said.

Adamu was born on Dec. 31, 1963 in Birnin-Yauri, Kebbi.

He graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology, Second Class Upper in 1986.

After his National Youth Service at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin-City, Edo, Adamu returned to Sokoto where he gained employment into the Sokoto State Civil Service.

He left the Sokoto State Civil Service to join NAN as a Reporter in 1988.

Adamu worked as a Reporter in NAN Sokoto Office and was the pioneer NAN District Correspondent in Bida and Kontgora district offices.

He was promoted as Correspondent in 1989 and a year later, was appointed as State Correspondent, NAN, Minna, Niger.

The late Adamu was later appointed Personal Assistant to the former Minister of Works and Housing, the late Maj.-Gen. Mamman Kontagora, a position he held until 1993.

He returned to NAN in 1993 and worked in various parts of the country where he held various editorial positions.

He was also a Standing Committee member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).

Adamu was married and has children.
