A member of the House of Representatives, Dr Abbas Tajuddeen said on Monday that the Federal Government would expend N4 billion on Galma dam irrigation project in 2016.

Tajuddeen, who represents Zaria Federal Constituency on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Zaria, Kaduna State.

He said the project was designed to reduce redundancy and further encourage dry season farming, especially among the youths.

“When completed, the project will provide opportunities for farmers in the area to boost their revenue base apart from creating jobs for the teaming unemployed youths.

“We want a situation where Nigeria will be completely food secure.

“Therefore, people must be ready to engage in farming activities and see it as a business not a tradition,” he said.

On constituency project, Tajuddeeen told NAN that he had donated 100 motorcycles, 200 sewing machines and 156 grinding machines.

The lawmaker said that 72 solar street lights were installed while eight boreholes were drilled apart from provision of scholarship to 800 students in the constituency.

He said two maternity centres would be constructed at Magume and Jakara in Limancin-Kona, Zaria-City, while Information and Communication Centre (ICT) to be located at Kofar Doka was on the pipeline.

“I also promised to personally construct a school from my pocket at Kufena, which I hope to lay the foundation soon,” he said.
