SEMA to train 30 fire servicemen in Kaduna
The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) says it will train 30 fire servicemen annually to save lives and property in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Barnabas Karik, made this known on Thursday during the presentation of certificate to 19 fire servicemen trained on basic fire fighting in Kaduna.
He said that the agency remains committed to training and retraining of staff responsible for the safety and security of lives and property in the state.
Represented by Mr Yau Mahmood, Chief Administrative officer of the Agency, said as many as 30 fire fighters are expected to be trained yearly at the Kano training school.
“Each one of the trainees here has pledged to put their lives on the line for the people of the state.
“We must ensure they have the appropriate training and equipment,” the secretary said.
On his part, the Director Fire Service, Mr Paul Aboi, said the training was necessary to drill the men to acquire basic knowledge on fire fighting.
He said the 19 men were drawn from Zaria, Kafanchan and Kaduna fire service stations.
Aboi said most of the fire men were recruited and posted to different zones without basic training.
“The challenges of fire are enormous, so we have to be emergency ready at all times,” he said.
Danjuma Umar, the Training Commander, said the training was to prepare the men to respond to fire outbreak and render humanitarian services.
He said the men were trained on Fire prevention, First Aid, Fire ground tactics, Fix installations, foot and fire drills.
The commander called on the trainees to use the knowledge to ensure the state is safe.
