A popular online medium said a group of heavily armed kidnappers Thursday night abducted Margaret Emefiele, the wife of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

Sahara Reporters reports that Mrs. Emefiele was kidnapped along the Benin-Agbor Road alongside six others by heavily armed men who forced them into their car and sped off.

Sources disclosed that the kidnappers who have already made contact with their victim’s husband were demanding a huge sum in ransom in the region of N1.5 billion.

Meanwhile, over 1,000 combined team of soldiers, air force officers and mobile police are said to have been deployed to the forest at Benin-Agbor road where Mrs Emefiele was taken to after she was kidnapped.

Though the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Don Awunah would not pick several calls to his phone, Police sources said the commissioners of Police of Edo and Delta States were spotted at Ugoneki police station yesterday evening where they are working with others to find the kidnapped woman.

It was learnt that the abductors forced Mrs Emefiele into their vehicle with tinted glasses and drove through Agbor after shooting sporadically into the air to scare onlookers away.

The Delta Sate governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Aniagwu yesterday pleaded with the abductors of the CBN governor’s wife and six others to release them unhurt.
