Man docked for belonging to secret cult
A 32-year-old man, Shedrack Abuda, was on Friday charged before an Ota Magistrate’s Court in Ogun for allegedly belonging to a secret cult.
Abuda, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of unlawful membership of a secret cult.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Abdulkareem Mustapha told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept.24 at about 1.00 p.m. at Lagos/Abeokuta Really Road, Ota.
Mustapha said that the defendant unlawfully belonged to a secret cult called ”Eiye Confraternity”.
He said that the offence contravened Section 3 of the Secret Cult (Prohibition & Special Provision), Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. I Adelaja, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must be residents within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.
Adelaja also ordered that the sureties should swear to affidavits of means and show evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government.
In addition, the magistrate said that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and their addresses should be verified by the police.
The case was adjourned to Dec.5 for further hearing.
