Police arraign man for obtaining N250,000 falsely

A 33-year-old man, Francis Udochukwu, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N250,000 ‎under false pretext to supply aluminum steel.

Udochukwu of no fixed address is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and obtaining under false pretext.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Christopher Okoliko told the court that the defendant and others now at large, committed the offences at Orisunbare Iron Market, Orile Iganmu Lagos on Sept. 13.‎

Okoliko alleged that the accused and ‎others at large did fraudulently obtain N250,000 from the complainant, one Ganiyu Kareem, under the pretext of supplying him aluminum steel at the market.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.‎

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Dan -Oni said that one of the sureties must be gainfully employed, provide evidence of tax payments and addresses verified.

She adjourned the case till Oct. 18 for mention.
