Felabration 2016 kicks off

The annual Felabration event usually held in Lagos, with a mission to keep the music life and legacy of the late Fela Anikulapo -Kuti alive and celebrated globally kicked off on Monday, October 10 with a symposium tagged “Movement Against Second Slavery” held at NECA hall, Hakeem Balogun Ikeja.

Speakers present at the occasion, included House Leader of Nigeria’s 8th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Adebola Williams, Lemi Ghariokwu, Affiong L. Affiong, alongside Prof. Sophie Oluwole as moderator.

In a statement Gbajabiamila said : ”Fela was not just a musician, he was a philosopher and a deep thinker”.

Addressing the organizers of the event, Affiong advised that they start a consciousness in the 21st century to abolish second slavery.

Debola Williams who is also one of the speakers emphasized in his speech that the media is needed for mass education, adding that it is a veritable tool for freedom.

This is the 8th edition of Felabration, and it is always packed with a long list of artistes trilling their fans live on stage in remembrance of the music icon.

The first night performance and appearances at the opening ceremony included: Femi Kuti’s band {Positive Force] Sugar boy, Mayorkun, Ekun, Mr Eazi, Edaoto, Pepenazi, Femi and the Africanaas band, Omobaba the commedian as MC and a host of others.

The event is organized in honor of the late Afrobeat legend and human rights activist.
