The Enugu State Waste Management Agency (ESWAMA) on Thursday warned residents not to pay sanitation fee in cash to any individual or group.

Mrs Beatrice Igbodike, Public Relations Officer of the agency, said in Enugu that all payments to ESWAMA must be done through the bank.

She urged the public to be wary of some unscrupulous elements extorting money from unsuspecting people under the guise of working for the agency.

The spokesperson said that at no time did ESWAMA authorise anybody, group, company or even its members of staff to collect sanitation fee in cash from the public.

“We have designated commercial banks and specified account number of the state government in the banks for payment of yearly sanitation fee.

“Residents should report anybody asking them to pay cash for sanitation fee to ESWAMA or law enforcement agencies,’’ she said.

Igbodike appealed to residents to pay their sanitation fee regularly and bag their wastes before dumping into receptacles.
