Alake of Egba squash tournament postponed indefinitely

Seun Peters, the President, Professional Squash Players Association of Nigeria (PSPAN), on Wednesday, said that the 2nd Alake of Egba tournament has been postponed indefinitely.
Peters told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the sponsor made an unreasonable demand from PSPAN which was unacceptable to them.
NAN reports that the U-15 Championships was scheduled to hold in November before it was postponed indefinitely.
“The sponsor wanted it to be strictly for players of Egba origin which is unfair.
“We couldn’t accept his terms as the players’ representatives; we can’t sell them out like that.
“How do we tell players that have been training for the competition that it has been cancelled and that only players from Egbaland are eligible?
“We did what we could by not accepting the terms because if we do, other potential sponsors will be giving us ridiculous terms too,” he told NAN hoping that the future was bright.
“PSPAN is not for any particular tribe, we represent every squash player that belongs to the body in every part of the country.
“Because we are trying to use sports as a tool for unity, we couldn’t settle for less.”
NAN reports that Abel Shedrack from Lagos State won the first edition which was an open tournament.
