An Osogbo Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Wednesday remanded a 40-year-old man, Hamzat Morufu, at an Ilesa Prison for alleged breach of public peace and assault.

Magistrate Olusola Aluko ordered that the accused be remanded for allegedly attacking his victim with a screwdriver and his alleged mental illness.

The magistrate then adjourned the case to Dec. 12.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Rasaki Olaiwola, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 31 at about 11p.m., at Oke Baale area of Osogbo.

Olaiwola alleged that the accused conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace by attacking one Olaoluwa Kareem with a screw driver.

The prosecutor told the court that the accused was suffering from alleged mental illness.

Olaiwola said the offences contravened Sections 355 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of breach of the peace and assault.

The counsel to the accused, Mrs Bose Adeyinka , urged the court to grant her client bail in the most liberal terms, but the magistrate, however, refused the application.
