Customs donate relief materials to IDPs

The National Logistics Committee on Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) on Thursday donated relief materials to five Local Government Areas in Adamawa North.
The donation of the food and other relief materials was made at the Government Warehouse in Yola.
Beneficiaries were those displaced by the insurgency crisis in Madagali, Michika, Hong, Gombi and Mubi North.
Also to benefit were some IDPs being taken care of by the Christain Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Muslim Council.
Presenting the items, Chairman of the Committee, Sanusi Umar, an Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, said that under the second phase, priority was being given to IDPs returning to their communities, particularly those in the Northern part of the state.
Sanusi said that the area was more affected by the insurgency.
“I still want to emphasize that these food and other relief materials are only meant for the IDPs and those of them that have returned to their communities.
“With the help of the members of the local organizing committee, I believe they will ensure that these goods are properly delivered to the people concern,” Sanusi said.
Items distributed included bags of rice and vegetable oil.
In their responses, the Chairmen of the Local Government Areas promised to ensure that the items get to the benefiting communities.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Binde, said that the state government would ensure that the items get to the IDPs.
He commended both President Buhari and the Comptroller-General of Customs for the donation.
