Two people have died as a trailer on top speed ran into another stationary trailer in Lekki area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, the agency received an alert through its emergency line on Tuesday concerning an accident on Lekki-Epe Expressway by Abidjan bus stop.

LASEMA’s General Manager, Adesina Tiamiyu said the alert prompted immediate activation of the agency’s Emergency Response Team, ERT to the scene of the incident.

“Preliminary investigations carried out by the ERT at the scene of the incident revealed that a trailer conveying iron rod with registration number: Lagos AGL 86 XN, on high speed collided with another trailer loaded with cement parked on the road side resulting into a fatal accident with two people dead.

“The driver of the iron rod loaded truck identified as Mubarak and the motor boy identified as Baki were trapped and died in the accident. They were extricated by the LASEMA’s ERT and were handed over to the Nigerian Police from Elemoro Police Station, while the two trucks were also towed to the same police station for further investigation,” he said.

Tiamiyu added that operatives of the agency, alongside the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police Force were the responders present at the scene of the incident.

He said proper investigation would be conducted on the incident by the appropriate authorities.

He advised motorists to adhere to safety precaution while driving and to also ensure that broken down trucks were properly parked with necessary safety caution.
