A statement by Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media said that the governor wished Sir Akpa well in his future endeavours.

No reason was given for the sack.

Akpa was appointed Senior Special Assistant by Governor Wike in 2015. Before his appointment, he was the Director and Head of Secretariat of the defunct 40-member Rivers State Economic Advisor Council headed by Emeritus Prof. Nimi Dimkpa Briggs, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt.

Akpa who hails from Andoni Local Government Area of the state had served three former military administrators of Rivers as Director of Protocol.
