Three labourers who allegedly stole two canopy pillars valued at N250,000 from their employer on Thursday appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused – Abdullahi Ojedapo, 21, Habib Dauda, 28, and Adetunji Aremu, 26, reside in Festac Town area of Lagos State.
They are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Uche Simon, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 9 at Ibeto Group of Companies at 1st Rainbow, Festac Town, Lagos.

Simon said the pillars were from Ibeto Group of Companies where they work.

“When the company discovered that some pillars were missing, they confronted the workers, who all claimed they knew nothing about the missing pillars.

“The the trio were arrested because they were acting suspicious and they were the ones in charge of the pillars,’’ he said.

He said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 285 prescribes three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 409 stipulates two-year imprisonment for conspiracy.

The Magistrate, Mr A.A Paul, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case to Dec. 12 for mention.
