Man docked for impersonating Nigerian Army officer

A 42-year-old man, Umar Usman, was on Tuesday arraigned for allegedly parading himself as a serving member of the Nigeria Army.
He appeared at an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Usman, who pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of impersonation and possession of items suspected to have been stolen, resides in Ojo area of Lagos.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Uche Simon, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 9 at Agric Bus Stop, Ojo, Lagos State.
Simon said that the defendant, who was parading himself as a serving member of the Nigerian Army, was caught harassing people on the road with the uniform.
He told the court that when the defendant was apprehended by the police, they found two pairs of shirt, three uniforms and a camouflage face cap belonging to the Nigerian Army in his bag.
Simon said that the accused could not give a satisfactory account of how he got the uniforms.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 77 and 328 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 77 prescribes three-year jail term for impersonation.
The Magistrate, Mr A.A Paul, gave the defendant to N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Further hearing in the case was adjourned until Dec. 12.
