Abuja Carnival: President Buhari to support creative industry

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated Federal Government’s support for the creative industry as part of measures to grow the economy.

Buhari, who was represented by Malam Mohammad Bello, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), said this at the “Command Performance’’ held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa on Monday night in Abuja.

The event was part of activities at the ongoing Abuja Carnival.

According to him, effort is being made to develop the creative industry to boost economic growth and development of the country.

“The issue of economic growth which is the primary focus of this event is one of the central issues of the change agenda.

“Precisely on 29 May, 2015, when I was sworn-in, I did mention that the economy will require a lot of work and careful planning.

“I also mentioned that we will make a lot of efforts towards addressing the economic challenges as well as so many others that will prompt development acceleration.

“I wish to reiterate my resolve to support the development of the creative industry, considering the fact that human creativity is the ultimate development resource and the industry may depend increasingly in the attainment of more creativity and innovation.’’

He added that the creative industry was known to be economically beneficial worldwide by creating jobs, alleviating poverty and attracting investors which was necessary for Nigeria in the light of dwindling oil prices.

The event was also attended by the Minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Permanent Secretary of FCT Administration, Dr. Ajakaiye Babatope, Diplomats, and Heads of government parastatals.

Other guests who attended the occasion include States Commissioners and Directors of Culture, and some FCT residents among others.

There were cultural performances by cultural troupes from Plateau, Delta, Abia, Gombe, Ogun and Katsina States, including a dance group from Korea.
